It’s also polite to let people merge instead of speeding up. Remember, they can be learning and have fear trying to merge. You don’t have to stop, but just letting up on your petal to let them get in doesn’t hurt anyone.

I usually just switch lanes to give the cars coming in space to enter then when everything settles I turn back into the lane I was in

Merging traffic does need to yield to highway traffic, true, but letting them in is 100% safer for everyone than expecting them to stop until they can merge

Courteous thing to do is slow down a bit and let car merge if safely to do so..yes you have the right of way, but its respectful. But as we know now, courtesy and respect for other people have gone out the window.

in my country both lanes are equally responsible, so you are required by law to move over or adjust your speed, even when on the highway

if the merg lane doesn't have a yield you're responsible to move over to allow a merge.

I live in a small state with exactly one major interstate, it’s common courtesy here to move over so that the incoming cars can merge easily. It’s so weird to me that other places don’t even think about moving over, I hate the stress so much. 😅

No, you must be defensive, not everyone knows how to drive or follows the rules, be prepared for some one to CUT U OFF. you may know how to drive, but many others do not. It's called defensive driving.

We have the shortest freeway onramp ever by my house, the exit lane disappears the second you’re on the freeway and you literally have to stop sometimes because no one lets you in

Work with the people coming on, they are accelerating to speed up, while trying to gage if it’s safe using side mirrors to judge to merge. This can be nerve racking.

Depends on the state. When I got my license in Nc, I got it wrong on the test when I said to keep my speed. Told that I needed to either switch lanes or slow down
