That’s because we live in a highly volatile and very tight regulations. Before we judge the software app builders let’s try to find out what regulators require apps to have. Building a fintech app requires a lot of security checks for you to even pass PCI DSS, Data protection and even ISO 27001:2022.

I am browsing through the comments and I can see that most people want to argue WHY instead of listening and adapting accordingly...and when they fail they blame us. Its always external factors instead of internal. Customers shows you where you are going wrong or what they are uncomfortable with, instead of fixing the problem you defend it. Its as if we the customers are the only ones who want the business to survive.

Not all apps are the same, please note that. I recently saw a serious case of someone who lost access to multiple important services when they lost control of their Google account. Simple auth means like 3rd party auth looks cheap and easy, but can be real bad idea in some cases.

It depends on the product though. You can’t pick certain products to drive a point. There’s a lot of products in high trust societies that do the same thing you talking about. Context really matters when it comes to onboarding.

Seriously i thought i was the only one who noticed this. Now i have an app and it begins with guest mode, completely optional to create account, got 80 sign ups in a months, its about value provision not asking too much user info.

Always pointing it to "African apps" doesn't sit right imo. I've seen foreign apps make the same mistake. Secondly, I think this is more about the product itself. As someone who enjoys building SaaS projects, in most cases the only page available to guests is the landing page. Once a user accesses the dashboard, the content usually has to be fetched dynamically and tailored to that specific user. Because of that, I wouldn't expect guests to browse much beyond the landing page. That said, it's still a good idea to keep onboarding minimal, with only the essentials such as name, email, and password.

depends on what you're building. if its a consumer app then you don't need the long sign up process. but if its b2b or b2c (especially fintech products) you need to have the process because of regulation
