That keeps your transaction active, and the next person can pump gas on your card. Police departments have warned about it recently. Basically: 1. You finish pumping 2. The nozzle looks put back normally 3. The bolt/screw stops the handle from clicking fully into place 4. Your card session stays open 5. Someone else pumps gas using your authorization A few ways to protect yourself: * Make sure the nozzle fully clicks back into the holder * Wait for the screen to reset to the “Insert Card / Ready” screen before leaving * Always grab a receipt if possible * Don’t let strangers “help” you at the pump * Use tap-to-pay or Apple Pay when possible * Check your bank app after fueling Some scammers also jam receipts or objects in the holder instead of using a bolt.
