For anyone wondering: it happened in 2014 in the Netherlands. 34 year old Polish driver lost control of his vehicle on a bend near the town of Meijel. He flew off the road and struck three cyclists: Peter van der Vorst (74), his wife Jeanne (67), and their 2 year old granddaughter, Iza Derijks. All three were killed. Investigators noted the driver was travelling roughly 75 mph in a 50 mph zone. An appeals court completely overturned the lower court's decision. The appeal judges ruled that the accident was undeniably the direct result of excessive speeding, finding the driver fully responsible for the deaths. They sentenced him to 15 months in prison and issued a four year driving ban.

Was it an accident or a drunk or impaired driver? Makes a huge difference if someone had say a tire blowout and lost control or if they were drunk and ran a stop sign.
