Ooh ooh ooh. Calico and tortoise shell cats are (almost) universally female. One of the colour genes is in the X and because different cells turn one or the other X off as a Barr body, when that happens in embryo development makes the patterns. From a 1995 memory, probably at least imprecise if not outright wrong.

Something even cooler, pun intended, Siamese cats fur around their eyes can turn white with warmer temperatures and even with fever since the enzyme is inhibited by warmer temperatures. 😁

Colorpoint (including mink and Sepia) are caused by acromelanism. All Siamese are colorpoint.

Also, colour pointed cats (not necessarily just Siamese cats but also domestic shorthair cats that are a colour point) are more highly represented for instances of nystagmus and vision issues. I work in VetMed and we see it from time to time in the colour points.
