No one ‘mysteriously’ buried the Moai monoliths. 🏝️🗿 It is common (scholarly) knowledge that the Moai lower bodies were buried over centuries by shifting dirt, windblown sediment, and soil sliding down hillsides. No one ‘dug’ holes. No one ‘buried’ them. No flood. 🏝️🗿 The statues that were placed on hillsides (particularly near the Rano Raraku quarry) were gradually covered as rain washed dirt and sediment downhill over hundreds of years. 🏝️🗿 Many of the standing statues near the quarry were intentionally kept in deep, pre-dug holes or on pedestals to ensure the sacred nature of the site and stimulate agricultural fertility in the nutrient-rich rock fragments. It’s not a mystery. Not at all. 🤷🏻♀️
