I had a chaperone like you once when I was 5. She bought me dip n dots and put my hair up in pigtails when I got hot running around. I am 36 and I STILL think of how thankful I was for those small sweet moments from an adult who didn’t have to be so kind but chose to be anyway. 💕

my dad used to chaperone all my field trips and had this same energy. once he couldn't come, so he called ahead and preorderd lunch and dessert for my whole class.

as a poor 3rd grade child who's parents also didn't gaf, a chaperone bought me a tiny magnetic lobster. he is my pride and joy, rides on the mirror in every car I drive I am eternally grateful to that mom. I wasn't even friends w her kid. 😭

when I was in second grade we went to sea world. it was the first time I ever saw a real candy shop. i cried because I didnt have money like everyone else. The chaperone bought me a giant pixie stick. It was such a joy for me. thanks for being awesome

Here’s another idea… I make sure to take TONS of pictures of my group, including LOTS of individual pictures of each kid. At the end of the field trip, I put together a small Shutterfly style book and have one printed for each kid in my group. That way, the parents who couldn’t come on the trip get to see all the fun their kid had that day!

The only parent that bothers me is the one that pulls their own child aside separately to spoil their own child in front of every other child. So thank you for being inclusive to all children 🥰♥️

I’ve been the kid without snacks. I’ve been the mom without money for extras. I’ve been the mom with extra money. It’s not hard to just do what you can and not be jealous of what others “get”.

As a teacher, I very strategically put the kids who need this energy in the groups with adults like you. I remember being a chaperone on a trip with my sister (I was 20, she was 9) and I got our group ice cream and everyone got a small souvenir. one of the kids in that group invited me to her grad party 9 years later and told me her mom has lost her job and her dad was recently in jail when we went on that trip, and that was the only time she ever got a souvenir on a trip ever.

I had a chaperone like you I was the poor kid. It made me feel like I was not different for the day. Every field trip I ever went on with my children. I did the exact same thing why because I can and their smiles and happiness are 100% worth it.
