@based.legacy: In June 1099, during the First Crusade, a Crusader army reached Jerusalem, which was then under Fatimid control. The forces, numbering around 12,000 to 15,000, began a siege on 7 June. Facing strong city walls and limited supplies, the Crusaders constructed siege towers and ladders. On 15 July, after several weeks of fighting, they breached the northern and southern defenses. The city fell that day. Godfrey of Bouillon and other leaders took control, marking the end of the main military campaign of the First Crusade. The event led to the founding of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the first Crusader state in the Levant. #History #historyedit #crusader #knight
