The anime/ manga is definitely influenced from ouji and Lolita fashion which came from the Japanese interest in western fashion so there wonโt be complete accuracies and there are a lot of liberties taken.

In the Campania arc it was revealed, that Ciel wears the heels to look taller. If I remember correctly he didnโt wear them before his parents passed and a s the new house head he wants to look a at a bit tall I think

me, who knows nothing about suits or fashion, every other sentence you said about Sebastian's suit: oh! that ties in with sebastian's [lore/theme]! haha i know the author actually studied art and stuff of the period and shows massive amounts of that knowledge subtly in her work, and i assume that includes fashion. she does go kind of all out on the character's costumes.

For an exact date, the showโs start date is 1888. These dates come from the fact that Ciel is currently 13 (born 1875). โ88 is the year theyโre in the outfits you look at in the vid but the show is currently in mid/late 1889 as of the most recent season. For Cielโs reasoning for heels, he simply wears them to look taller. A big part of his character is trying to appear older / more mature as heโs a child Earl.

The writer of black butler uses real historic fashion as a reference, then usually she changes up some things depending on the type of genre it is, like with twisted wonderland where she based diasomniaโs dorm uniforms that of early 1900โs military clothes (the uniforms theyโd wear when not in battle)

There's a reason why Ciel wears heels, it's not presented as a common thing in the show. He uses them 'cuz his whole family d13d and he is the only heir but even if he is currently "The Phantomhive Count" he's looked down and treated like a child constantly. Thanks to that, he became a little bit obsessed with his own height and used heels and high top hats to look taller and (in his mind) more mature and respectful... which I find a pretty interesting detail. The author is really into fashion so there's a lot to unpack on each design.
