I am 59 years old. It took me 40 years to stop taking care of my family.

Your niece is honestly NOT your responsibility. You’re not being selfish at all. You have every right to love your childless life and peace ♥️♥️♥️

We have to let adults lead the lives they chose. It’s okay to let them learn and to choose yourself.

She is already doing more than most would, by helping to financially support her niece. If she doesn’t want to keep the kid, even temporarily, she shouldn’t feel obligated to.

Absolutely not selfish. You have a boundary and that is ok to uphold. That is your sisters child and her responsibility.

45. Married 16 yrs, but together 23. childless. Happy. Free. So glad we havent subjected any kids to the ups and downs of our health and finance challenges. You have done more than enough. DO NOT compromise. This is a slippery slope.

totally agree Kelley! it's not selfish to hold boundaries. this sister is helping as much a she can. I want to add... there is always the possibility the sister would (try to?) make it permanent, if she takes her niece in. do not give her the opportunity.
I would only take the niece if she was going to go into foster care. just because the sister wants a break isn't a good enough reason.
