When the Philuppines were about to defeat Spain on the ground, Spain "sold" the country to the US, and even arranged for a "moc"k battle in Manila bay to show Spain "surrendering" to the US. This has been branded as the "Spanish-American War", but for the Filipinos, it was our Battle for Independence, and we claim this in 1898.
