My friend just bought a house in St. Croix and owns another home. I’m finally finishing my bachelor’s degree at age 49 after repairing from a bad marriage and divorce. She’s proud of me. I’m proud of her. We have dinners at home and she’s very generous. She’s “my person.” The only challenge we come across is that she doesn’t understand setbacks- and I’ve navigated them my whole life.

I just pay for both of us if I know my friend can’t afford something. If I don’t have the money to pay for us both, I wouldn’t suggest it. When I had financially hard times they did the same😊

I grew up with money, I was privately educated etc and so everyone I know in my social circle is wealthy. Now, due to a range of difficult factors, I am comparatively poor. And it is so hard to be the only one struggling and to feel that everyone is pitying me.

Yes, I have a friend who travels, buys anything they want, goes to some really great shows…I don’t because I live on a budget. I am extremely happy for her. She once said I have a boring life! I was shocked. My life is anything but boring. I love my quiet life, the peace and joy I have now beats all the years I pushed myself to “keep up”. We are still great friends! 🙏🏻❤️

My son and I have a lot of convos about this since one of his friends and his mom are our friends, but they choose to spend their money differently and they have more of it. They can sometimes get upset with us since we have to say no a lot, and that's frustrating for my 13 year old. I'm trying to teach him to be content with what we have, since we have everything we need, while also accepting that folks are allowed to spend their money how they wish without our judgement, but it's not easy since the pressure is very real.

I have friends that go to Vegas for a big friend trip every year. This year I explained that I actually had been putting it on my credit card and finally made the commitment to not go. They actually were very understanding.

I have a friend and we have a very significant family income difference. We talk about it and meet where it’s comfortable for both of us. We both “grew up” going to dive bars and now we love to meet up at a new dive bar together.
