@vxcuumnoheaven: Europa Clipper is NASA’s flagship mission to investigate whether Jupiter’s moon Europa could support life. Launched in October 2024, the spacecraft is on its way to the Jupiter system, where it will arrive in 2030. Europa is one of the most promising places in the solar system to search for life because it harbors a vast liquid water ocean beneath its icy shell — and where there’s liquid water, there’s potential for life as we know it. Rather than orbiting Europa directly (Jupiter’s intense radiation would fry the spacecraft too quickly), Clipper will orbit Jupiter and perform about 50 close flybys of Europa over several years. During each pass, its suite of nine science instruments will map the moon’s surface, measure the thickness of the ice shell, analyze the composition of its ocean and any plumes of water vapor erupting into space, and assess the moon’s habitability. This is NOT what NASA is planning or doing, the Europa clipper is a satellite that will be placed in a low orbit of Europa, and fly through a cloud of mist that is shot out from the surface from cryogeysers. They will then analyze the water to find cells, or biosignatures, among other tests.
