Can you imagine if we believed all the things their kids tell us about them/their home and come in hot the way they do? I used to tell my parents “I won’t believe everything they tell me about you, if you don’t believe everything they tell you about me.”

We used to have one or two “tiger” moms in the school but now we have two per class. The kids are smart and know how to redirect parent angst. Teaching is hard.

I’ve always said kids will get more attention from their parents if they talk about the negative things that happen at school. If they everything is good, they’ll just get a “that’s nice.”

Just today my son asked for McDs after school b/c he didn't get lunch for his half day. I asked his para and she said he got lunch AND a parent brought the kids McDs AT school. I am a teacher and I don't believe half the stuff my son says.

I never understood throwing a fit before getting all of the information. Maybe it's because I have a good relationship with my child's school, but I always call and get all the information before doing or saying anything. I will also never foster mutual negative feelings about school. That's crazy to me.

Ever hear “my child would never lie to me”. I have.

I’ve 100% seen this happen! Some parents also like to “gossip” and get really negative with their kids.

I’ve always thought kids would exaggerate things because parents would actually listen to them when the kids had drama to share. Otherwise the kid wasn’t paid attention.

Sometimes. Dr Phil once said that kids are lying about their behaviour when their mouths are moving.

But I wish that admin would pick up on the fact that the classroom that is being talked about is still chaos. I agree kids make things up for a wide variety of reasons, however, there might be something to look into and some observations to be done.

Timely. I needed this. I’ve been trying to understand why a parent with whom I’ve had a good relationship all year suddenly cursed me out on the phone last week. This makes sense.

I’ve said this for years. I try to tell myself, the parent has to live with the potential monster they’re raising that way (assuming they don’t grow out of it) and unfortunately that relationship dynamic may not change, but for me it’s 180 days and you’re moving on. ✌️

OMGosh! Yes, I’ve been saying something so similar in the last few years. When students talk about other kids or teachers being mean… all of a sudden parent puts the phone down and gives child the undivided attention they’ve been craving. From that point on they know exactly how to get parents attention… all of a sudden in that moment they feel listened to and loved… cared for, fought for. ❤️

Kids want to bond with their parents. Makes perfect sense, but so unfair to the teacher

I felt when I was teaching that when a kid gets in trouble at home for something, they would blame me. One good kid and I had to meet with the principal and come up with a plan based on something that NEVER happened.
