My husband and I saved our money for 5 years to enable us to afford 5 years of childcare (our savings pay for half, while not paying extra on our mortgage and not contributing extra toward retirement pay for the other half). We can only afford to have one child because $2,200/month in childcare plus $3,200 mortgage is already insane for $140k combined income

This is why I’m a SAHM til the baby goes to school at least. She’s the third and yep didn’t make financial sense to work anymore for the time being. Thankfully we bought our house back in 2012 before things got stupid.

What my husband and I realized is the goal is to make money leave your account. Automate savings, automate investing. Make it seem like you’re paying a bill it will rewire you.

i work hybrid and my mom helped while she was a baby when i was in office. When i came back from maternity i looked up childcare costs and would just shovel the cost away so it wouldn’t feel like a hit when we would go to daycare. She is almost three and just started - i’m so thankful i had the thought so far ahead
