when a kid sleeps or refuses to do an assignment they are supposed to be doing during class, I put in the 0 and add a lil comment about the behavior. documentation AND communication

I’m a mom of a middle schooler. The 0 is the communication to me. I’ve seen the zeros in the grade book and it triggers me to ask my kid about it. You do not need to email them!

I put the 0 in as soon as it's late, even if the turned in work isn't graded yet (I always grade same week, usually next day). Want the 0 to go away? Turn something in 🤷♀️That's your reminder 🤣

I immediately put zeros in on the day it’s due if I don’t have it. I may not have graded the rest yet, but I grade the ones not there. I get most the next day that way.

I check my son’s grades weekly. The zero would be the communication and then I would communicating quick and in a hurry with my kiddo to get it fixed

I’ve gone back to zeros! I feel like NOT putting in zeros was confusing parents more. I used to get emails all the time like, “it says my kid’s assignment is missing but they have a 50%… which one is it?”

Yup, it is the fastest way for me to get my freshmen students to get work in. Sometimes I’ll go through before I grade the stuff that was due at the end of class and put zeros in for all the kids who didn’t turn in but leave all the others as not graded

I put zeros in all the time. If you refuse to do the work, you get a zero. And a lot of times I’ll put a note in the gradebook that says student refused to complete.
