great video. i have a few things to add, especially about banned ingredients between the fda annd eu. it is actually used as a trade war mechanism. the us or eu will ban the others classification number, but allow the use of their own classification number. us fda classification red 40 is banned in the eu, but the exact same chemical coloring, E129 is not banned.

One risk of banning is that the replacement might have worse effects than the substance at a limited amount. Does the EU consider the replacements when they choose to ban?

Also, it is useful to note that other places will ban some chemicals on the grounds of workplace exposure (eg for bakers) rather than the effect on the end consumer. The EU in particular has quite strict guidelines on workplace hazard exposure

I appreciate the explainer and your skill at informing. Two things I was still wondering at end of video were: 1. What triggered proposal to ban this in NY now? 2. Are there considerations for people prepping dough with potassium bromate since those are the individuals who could have frequent exposure to higher levels in non-cooked form? It makes me think of logic around banning chemicals related to birth defects from receipts since pregnant cashiers would have high contact. Not sure if similar in levels or risks though.
