lesbians have typically decentered men more than anyone. gay men can often bond with fem and femme lesbians over femininity, but for a masc lesbian who has fully decentered men, there is not common ground. gay men, like straight men, feel persecuted by being decentered because they have spent their whole lives being centered without realizing it. masc lesbians don’t particularly dislike gay men, but gay men take it as such because they don’t know what it’s like to not be catered to. it’s why lesbians are deemed to be man hating. we’re not.. we’re just not centering men.

apropos of nothing: a few months ago, a gay bar wanted to open in Aus with the name Pink Pony Club, with strictly young male gay clientele. the press release made it clear women, gay or otherwise, weren't desired patrons. i made a video on here pointing out what a bad marketing strategy that was, considering the name. the hate that video attracted from gay men was beyond anything I could have anticipated. I was called slurs, sent hateful DMs, had a bunch of fake accounts harassing me for days. I have never been treated that badly on this app, before or since, over such a relatively minor comment. that was honestly the sort of behaviour I would have expected from straight men. so intimidating, so scary. but they expect solidarity from us? 😮💨

As a masc lesbian, I was very close with a gay man for a few years. We connected on a lot of levels, music, art, social issues. The friendship fell apart basically due to his selfishness and inability to consider how his shitty actions affected others. Unfortunately I’ve experienced this a few times with other gay men as well.

I don’t like gay men because they are still men. White gay men are still white men. They have more privilege and more palatable to the cis het white community because they still fit the expectations of those circles. A lot of gay men now are removed from the AIDS epidemic so they don’t care how lesbians showed up. I’m a masc lesbian and feel more judged by gay men than a lot of straight men.

I spent a year going into gay spaces asking where the lesbians were when I was trying to find community in a new city and countless gay men during that time couldn’t tell me a single place other than “at home” as a joke. I’ve also been groped as a joke and told that gay clubs are for gay men specifically not as a joke so hard agree that misogyny is the problem.
