@the.holy.egypt: Before they became artifacts behind museum glass… these faces had names, families, memories, and lives of their own. The ancient Egyptians did not preserve only the body. They tried to preserve the human being himself. Instead of the expensive golden funerary masks reserved for kings and elites — like the famous mask of Tutankhamun — Egyptian artists created a more affordable and far more realistic way to immortalize the dead: painting the true face of the deceased on wooden panels placed over the mummy. These portraits were not made to depict gods or mythical heroes. They portrayed real people who once lived on Egyptian soil, with natural features, intense eyes, and expressions still filled with life after thousands of years. And that is why, when you look into the Fayum portraits… it feels as if their owners never truly disappeared. As if they are still here, silently watching time pass before them for over two thousand years. ➖➖➖➖ قبل ما تبقى مجرد قطعة أثرية خلف زجاج متحف… كان لكل وجه هنا اسم، وحياة، وأهل، وذكريات. المصريون القدماء لم يكتفوا بتحنيط الجسد فقط، بل حاولوا الحفاظ على “الإنسان” نفسه. وبدل الأقنعة الذهبية الفاخرة التي لم يكن يقدر عليها إلا الملوك والنخبة، ابتكر الفنانون المصريون طريقة أكثر واقعية وقربًا من البشر… رسم ملامح المتوفى الحقيقية على ألواح خشبية تُثبت فوق المومياء، لتبقى عيناه تنظران إلى العالم حتى بعد آلاف السنين. هذه الوجوه لم تُرسم كآلهة أو أبطال أسطوريين… بل كأناس حقيقيين عاشوا على أرض مصر، بملامح مصرية، ونظرات مليئة بالحياة والهدوء والهيبة. ولهذا عندما تنظر إلى بورتريهات الفيوم… تشعر أن أصحابها لم يختفوا أبدًا. كأنهم ما زالوا هنا، يراقبون الزمن وهو يمر أمامهم منذ ألفي عام. #the_holy_egypt
