Explain everything from the beginning.” Jake immediately sat down. “Three days ago, you called me ‘bro.’” “Because you stole my fries.” “And yesterday, you reacted ‘haha’ to my selfie.” “It was funny because you accidentally included the toilet in the background.” Jake clutched his chest. “You used to crop those out for me.” Heeseung finally realized what was happening. Jake had watched one sad edit on TikTok and decided their relationship was ending. Again. So Heeseung walked over, grabbed Jake by the cheeks, and squished his face like bread dough. “Listen carefully. I am not cheating on you.” Jake narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “That sounds exactly like what a non-cheater would say.” “I literally spend all my time with you.” “You could be emotionally cheating at the grocery store.” “With who? The cashier auntie?” Jake went quiet. “...She does laugh at your jokes.” Heeseung blinked in disbelief. “Jake.” “She called you handsome once.” “She called you handsome too.” “That was pity handsome.” At that point, Heeseung started laughing so hard he had to lean against the counter. Jake looked offended for exactly four seconds before laughing too, mostly because Heeseung’s laugh sounded like a broken kettle. “You’re impossible,” Heeseung said between laughs. Jake crossed his arms. “I’m just preparing mentally.” “For what?” “For heartbreak.” Heeseung walked closer and kissed his forehead. “The only thing breaking tonight is your dignity.” Right on cue, the forgotten ramen boiled over dramatically. Jake pointed at the stove. “See? Even the noodles can’t handle our relationship.” And somehow, despite Jake’s daily emotional disasters and Heeseung’s exhausted sighs, they still ended the night sharing burnt ramen on the couch, arguing over whether penguins had knees.
