Colbert came to my tiny town about a decade ago, and it was right when my father died and my mom was fighting terminal cancer. I ran into him at a bar when I was getting my mom’s food and he was so kind to just say hi while I was sobbing at the bar. My mom wasn’t eating at all after her chemo. He was so kind and gave me the biggest hug. I saw him on this obscure news/town events kind of episode with Eminem a few hours later and I couldn’t stop laughing. I still keep the photo he took with me up in my home because of all the people he could have talked to, he approached the person crying so hard they couldn’t say the name of their order.
