@shilohfarm: Tomato Pruning 101 🍅✂️ Before you start cutting branches off your tomatoes, you need to know this: 👉 Is your tomato determinate or indeterminate? 🌱 Determinate tomatoes grow to a set size and produce most of their fruit all at once. These are your “bush” types. Minimal pruning needed Just remove dead/diseased leaves and maybe a few lower branches for airflow Over-pruning can actually reduce your harvest 🌿 Indeterminate tomatoes keep growing and producing all season long. These are your vining types. These benefit the MOST from pruning Focus on removing “suckers” the little shoots that grow between the main stem and a branch Why prune them? 🍅 Bigger fruit 🌬 Better airflow ☀️ More sunlight penetration 🦠 Less disease pressure 🪴 Easier trellising and management I also like removing the lower leaves near the soil because rain splash is one of the easiest ways for diseases to move onto your plant.
