Thank you for putting words to this. This is exactly how I grew up. My mom micromanaged me until I felt like i didn’t know who I was. I was told I was succeeding but I felt so lonely and i didn’t know why.

Always logistics!!!! Blew up at my dad over this last week cause I finally had enough. Not only are the conversations devoid of any emotion, he thinks he knows me better than myself and that I always want his comment, criticism or approval on anything I tell him I’m doing.

This was my Mom. Even as I wanted to gush about my day at the end of it she wanted to disturb and interrupt it with things that needed to be "reported" to me or demands that I needed to "report" something to her. She wanted zero part of the conversations about my day I'd try to have with her. We talked about nothing. To this day I have no idea who her favorite teachers were, favorite bands, nothing. She used to go walking and I remember saying verbatim. "I notice you often just report to me the things you accomplished in a day. That's all good, I don't mean to say they aren't important. But when you go on your walks, I'm very curious. What do you listen to? Do you ever come across a cool new plant or see something interesting? Do you ever have just like an interesting thought you wanna share?" You'd think I cussed her out, I'd never seen her so angry or heard her scream so loud. Apparently I was being rude, condesending, and invasive. So I switched it up and became silent, no contact, and happy.🤭✨
