Knew a couple who did not take each other’s names. One’s last name was Plant and the other was Daisy. I told them they should have both changed their names to Flowers, since it was in the middle. They said they wished they had thought of that.

I'm disabled and have a ton of medical problems. I got asked if I was going to change my last name by my future in laws and I said hell no. that's WAY too much paperwork and fuss to change my name when it'll just cause me problems with records access

Belgian here. It is not even allowed to change our name to our spouses name. Kids can have the dad/mom or both names and you can use your spouses name informally, but legally you will always keep your name !

Neither my sister or my sister in law changed their last names. They are both teachers and were known by their maiden names. Neither of their husbands said anything. They have both been married for over 20 years, so I guess not changing their last name didn’t affect their marriage.

My cousin kept her last name because she is a lawyer with the same reasons OP gave minus her husband having the same last name. His is much different, but he understood in the end as a fellow lawyer.

I told my man I'm not taking his last name simply bc 1. I have to do double the paperwork plus some extra stuff & 2. I work with another person with my 1st name so coworkers use our last name instead. if they called out my mans last name, I'll get confused & start looking around expecting my man to show up 😂
