I have a 1 series no dip stick but you need to check oil levels before adding as to much will cause more issues . You can check it digital in the car the bc button on the lever under indicator it shows you the oil level .

go into your idrive and it will tell you the level, top up slowly. don't just bang it all in. then let the car run and re check the I drive till level is then good, just below max level

hiyaaa, just wanna add my 2 cents. BMW has designed the car in a good way so when the oil is at minimum it needs 1 liter added to get up to max. Even if you added too much. In racing series we fill up the cars with up to half a liter of extra oil for the extra g forces the car endures, the bmw is gonna be just fine driving with a bit too much oil and it will tell you and scream at you when it has way to much
