Firstly, just because you might not go to uni doesn't make you an idiot. Secondly, the problem is we convinced ourselves that the only reason to study is to be job market ready. Pursuit of science should be for the benefit of individuals and society as a whole, not markets. We need to decouple education from the capitalist system that is dying in front of our eyes.

Brother I’ve been in recruitment for over a decade, I don’t think it’s ever been harder than now for jr people , hiring managers want to expand their team and the board are just telling them to use Claude instead

When i grew up everyone told me to go to university, that is the best way to become a full fledged person. Went to university and then no job, no money nothing. The same thing that is happening now, was happening in 2005 when i graduated. Going to college is good only if you go to a technical college. Or you are good enough to start a business. Otherwise learn a trade. It will help a lot later on.

The internet/self service/automation has killed so many jobs. Take the example of a 🚂🎟 train ticket: years ago I'd go to the station and buy a ticket (Printed and delivered by someone else at some stage) from ticket counter, then get onto train and have ticket checked by inspector. The money from train ticket (often paid for in cash) would be collected, counted and lodged to a bank (more staff) which in turn had a money transit company delivering cash every week etc. So to buy a ticket required at minimum a printer, delivery man, ticket seller, ticket inspector, office clerk, bank clerk, cash transporter. Now I go to my phone and buy a ticket with zero human interaction. The volume of jobs erased has not been matched by the volume of jobs needed to replace them.
