@edwardcreates: not a huge fan of design “trends” that just identify popular aesthetics, but strategy-driven brand trends are always fascinating for me. for every bland-ified brand from the last 10 years, we’re starting to see a wave of legacy brands embracing playfulness and expression. with the rise of AI everything, this return to human emotion (even if it’s in the form of anthropomorphized mascots) will only get more intense imo. maybe in another 20 years there’ll be a dramatic call for restraint and minimalism again. the pendulum swings both ways, but this swing towards revitalized mascots is a personal favorite of mine. what do you think?
seems like tech compaines are trying to humanise their brand as people become more aware and critical of ai. firefox, apple, and duolingo have all had a controversies surrounding their move towards using ai.

I think some of it has to do with tech companies needing to appear friendly instead of imposing and also a mix of the ease of character animation today with the latest tools in use

I’m concerned this is just phase 1 of ai normalization effort. Make our bands cute, ride the wave of personification and cuteness of brand character. Then use familiarity and attachment to implement their ai. The brand becomes alive via ai. All these character become their clippy l.

this is a comeback I'm all-in for... as the home of Jollibee, I don't understand why not a lot of companies still use mascots and it can make things a lot more iconic and with a personality

I’m loving the resurgence of mascots, it makes brands feel more personal and homey. Besides, most mascots are just adorable. I haven’t seen Kit until now but I loooove it! So cute and full of personality

Minimalism boosted by corporations to minimize the cost and market liked its clean design. Minimalism has been in the market for a decade and it's not considered as new. The next commercial design will come to us soon

These are mostly brands with existing equity in mascots or personas. I’d call it a trend if we are seeing an influx of new, strongly directed mascot brands. There’s always a bunch of really janky ones, but where are the big new brands leading this trend?
