My favorite thing about 1 on 1’s is that my boss won’t ask questions or bring things up… they said that 30-minutes is my time to ask questions. So now I’m expected to build an agenda for a meeting I never wanted or asked for. 🙃

Don't forget your weekly 1 on 1 with your manager, plus the weekly 1 hour "leadership meeting". Plus the 30 minute daily "standup" where everyone says what they are doing this week. Eventually you can make up enough pointless meetings to make yourself look busy.

My favorite part of one-on-ones is about 10 years ago when the managers started saying " this is your time" And setting the expectation that individuals come up with the agenda for the call that we didn't schedule 😂. So the managers show up with nothing to talk about, nothing to advise you on, not even having reviewed your work, and contribute nothing for 30 minutes

I like my 1:1's with my manager. I've asked him to use that time to teach me extra skills/ tools and we discuss how I can improve and my feedback. We also discuss my career trajectory.

Team meetings are for all members to discuss lessons learned and for manager to discuss big items. 1:1 are for the employees to talk to their managers about items and should be used for growth and ensuring you’re doing well. Those should be employee led once you hit a certain point.

I had to do 22 1-1s and 2 60 min team meetings every week. This was directed by upper management I did not want to do that I actually had work to do.
