No, the problem in Traverse City is that builders are not building housing developments here in Traverse City. They would rather build tons of apartments instead. WE DO NOT HAVE A INVENTORY OF HOUSING HRRE. It has nothing to do with Airbnbs. Let's get it straight. I live here!!!!

I personally think the Airbnb/VRBO is more of a “FUDGIE thang” … it has almost nothing to do with affordable housing, & everything to do with tourism and having options from the hotels and motels in the area… All of the Airbnb’s that I am aware of in town are owned by local Traverse City homeowners… And I am not aware of any of them that are being used for permanent housing or long-term rentals… there are plenty of stick built, subdivisions being put up in all of the suburbs of Traverse City proper… Blair Township has exploded in the past 30 years… With many stick built, subdivisions off of Vance Road and surrounding areas… there are also many other family homes, being built, singularly, and another subdivisions around the area… The problem is, not everyone wants to live outside of town… they want to be able to have affordable housing within the city limits… THAT is what is not being developed… when I moved here 33 years ago, you could easily rent a home, or half a home, or a carriage house within the city limits… Even in central neighborhood there were quite a few options, but that has disappeared as the money has rolled into town… Those landlords sold their Traverse City properties for big dollars to people who wanted to move here these folks had/have way more money than most of the people who already live/lived here. A LOT of “wealthy” people have chosen TC as their home… or second home… or third home… and the city limits are only so big.

So many of the apartments that are built are short term rentals. It drives the rental market up as fast as supply is built.

Born and raised here. We want a house so bad but all of the starter homes are 300k+ Its the house flippers too. So many have doubled in price in the past 4 years from flipping.

yes I live in Traverse city Michigan and work for Munson I can't afford my own place I have a roommate. If I ever lose the place that I live in I will be homeless with a job.

I work at our level 1 trauma center and can’t even afford to live in Traverse City. There needs to be ACTUAL change and not just words in a political campaign

Why are you receiving phone calls from many spring rental property owners? What do they want from you? I've lived in my house for more than 20 years and don't get calls from them. You know , the vacation narrative has changed in many ways in TC. These huge hotels that have sprung up over night charge almost 400 per night, including 2 right across from 4front on US 31 or humongous hotels on the east side of town , just past four mile. That has more of an impact than any little air b.N b that might live down the street from you.
