@johnnyoram: In 1985, long before he became one of the most powerful leaders in the world, Xi Jinping quietly arrived in the United States with an agricultural delegation eager to learn about American farming, technology, and economic development. China at the time was beginning to open itself to the world. The country was studying how nations like the United States had modernized industries and agriculture so rapidly. Xi, then a little-known local Communist Party official from Hebei Province, was sent to America to observe and learn. His journey brought him first to the West Coast, where he visited San Francisco. To Xi, the city must have seemed like another world — steep rolling streets lined with cable cars, the Golden Gate Bridge standing proudly over the Pacific fog, and a spirit of openness and innovation unlike anything China had experienced during much of the previous generation. But it was America’s heartland that would leave the deepest impression. The delegation traveled to Iowa, where local American families welcomed the Chinese visitors into their homes. Xi stayed with a family in the small town of Muscatine. There were no luxury hotels or grand diplomatic entourages. Instead, there was something far simpler and more meaningful — ordinary American hospitality. The family opened their home to him, shared meals around the dinner table, and introduced him to life in rural America. They talked about farming, crops, machinery, and daily life. Xi toured local farms, studied agricultural techniques, and observed how American farmers operated with efficiency, technology, and independence. For the Iowa family, he was simply a polite and curious guest from China. No one could have imagined that decades later, the quiet visitor sitting in their living room would become the President of China. The experience stayed with Xi for years. He later invited the very family who hosted him in Iowa to visit him in China — a remarkable gesture that showed he never forgot the kindness and hospitality they showed him during that important chapter of his life. In later speeches, he would fondly recall the warmth of the American families he met during that journey. And when he returned to Iowa decades later as China’s vice president, he reunited with the same people who had welcomed him so many years earlier. It was a reminder that history is not always shaped only in government buildings or political summits. Sometimes it begins at a kitchen table in a small American town, where strangers from opposite sides of the world share stories, meals, and hopes for the future. Long before trade wars, geopolitical rivalry, and global tensions dominated headlines, there was a young man from China walking through Iowa cornfields and discovering America through the kindness of everyday people. One day, I’d love to sit down and interview Xi Jinping as part of the revival of my Profiles series — not just to discuss geopolitics and leadership, but to explore the human stories and experiences that shape world leaders behind the scenes. #China #XiJinping #Leadership #ProfilesSeries #History @AIRCHINA @ChinaEasternAirlinesItaly @China Daily

Believing in love can help eliminate the barriers between the two major powers, China and the United States, enabling them to work together, achieve win-win cooperation, and benefit humanity and the world.

I believe that no matter how countries compete, the goodwill of the two peoples can melt the cold human nature, and what makes people different is the situation different.

Before becoming President, Xi Jinping served first as a village head, followed by county head, mayor, provincial governor, and Mayor of Shanghai; he then served as Vice President before finally ascending to the presidency.

In fact, the Chinese are the people most similar to Americans in the world. Both nations see themselves as distinctive, yet not in pursuit of special privileges. They do not claim exceptional treatment because they feel unique; instead, both share a strong sense of responsibility.
The Chinese philosophy emphasizes self‑cultivation, family harmony, social order and national governance. Americans likewise have a profound sense of duty. These two peoples are deeply alike and ought to appreciate one another.
