its not a misconception. Many, many places prorate 10 months over 12 months. The misconception is that we get paid for the summer.

We may get paid DURING the summer but we don’t get paid FOR the summer. My district allows you to break the 10 month checks into 12 month checks. And we get paid for our contracted 185 days

In my district I get paid through the whole year. My yearly salary is divided into 24 different pay periods. BUT I am not paid FOR June and July. My checks in the summer comes from the recently finished school year. It just depends on where you work.

Teachers get paid FOR the academic school days they work. A lot of teachers get paid over the course of 12 months, whether by choice or not (not, in my case).
