From what Director/writer stated. Nikki was never possessed by an outside Entity. Its more like she is in a Trance. Think of it as an alternate personality attempting to take place of the current personality.

Ian tells bear that Nikki only sees him as a “little brother” and then at the party she tells the Hansel and grettel story and mentions them being siblings it COULD have been the real Nikki trying to convey a message

During her poem, she states “A love only the branch of a willow tree could conjure.” which means she had had to write that poem while she was taken over by the entity, which i think is heartbreaking. Real Nikki coming back and writing that poem, saying the love was never real and Bear was like a brother to her. This movie was insanely amazing

every time she kept saying sorry that was the real Nikki coming back ... especially in the beginning but as the movie progressed the entity became stronger and just wanted Bear to say I love you and when he said it... Nikki back up with that crazy backwards walk and said this is the real me

I saw another post talking about how the wish version of her only exists when she’s being perceived, and when Bear isn’t seeing her, real Nikki still won’t gain any physical autonomy, so the waste scene was definitely her being trapped in the wish Nikki’s idle state with only her consciousness. Kinda like how when she was asleep she could speak for herself while wish nikki was asleep

I think the reason she was just standing there when Bear left was because without Bear she had nothing since her whole life revolved around him and she couldn’t even consider doing anything that wasn’t for him

when she covered her face w fake roses, imo to show that she waa just like those roses, from just looking at them u can tell they are roses, but when u actually touch them u feel that they are just plastic roses so none of that are actually real roses and same thing goes to Nikki, she was trying to tell him that she was Nikki from apparance but hè was just loving a piece of plastic version of her self that is not real

I have a theory that the whole cat situation was Nikki. The memorial. The cat sandwich. Because when she packed the lunch she wrote "not me" on the photo. I think that was her way of trying to get back at Bear.

so i could talk about this movie for hours and if anyone wants to reply, please do! my theory and what i’ve seen others agree with is this: Nikki was a writer, so she’s able to break through when she writes (on the polaroid where she writes “you, not me” on 2 diff polaroids. the “not me” is written directly under HER in a photo of the two of them) (the Hansel and Gretel story at the party, displaying she’s forced into a relationship that is wrong). the movie gives great tonal and visible cues for when the switch between Nikki and Freaky Nikki occur.
