There is no evidence that genesight nor other gene testing companies that offer this service significantly improve outcomes for patients. At the very best it MIGHT give you insight on your metabolism, but that does NOT accurately nor reliably predict how you will respond to psychotropic medication nor which psychotropic medication is best for you. If you’re a psychologist then you have been trained to be evidenced based in your clinical practice. This is not evidence based.

My PsyD program shared this with us in our psychopharm class! It’s so nice that it can be used for individuals who have tried multiple medications but experienced difficulties.

gene sight is not evidence based and barely does any help. I am a geneticist and we do not recommend this at all. It sounds like a great idea in theory but it’s not fully developed. It can also be very expensive

I’m an MFT, (new so don’t judge my possible stupid question 😂) but can I recommend this/suggest this to clients?? This is awesome. But wait, is this an out of pocket expense? Does Medicaid cover this service? Well, now that I’m thinking about it, it’s probably state dependent… I’m in Idaho.

we use this at my clinical site! when i refer my clients to one of our APN’s, i let them know that they will receive the gene site testing kit to see which medication would be best if meds are recommended!
