Michael Valentino PFC. George Lopes PFC. Howard Dahms Men of the 1st Platoon, Company A, 710th Tank Battalion, were killed after their Sherman struck a land mine while returning to attack Japanese-held caves. Moments earlier, the crew had helped rescue two downed Navy airmen. Captain H. W. Jones of the 1st Marine Division was also killed during the action.
