I firmly believe that Big Daddy has been quietly supporting their family for decades, by paying Tiana's mother generously for her work and making sure she is never OUT of work. Tiana works hard to save money for her restaurant, but she isn't working two jobs just to keep herself and her mother above water. She is ABLE to save up because Big Daddy made sure there would always be food on their table, by treating her mother with respect and paying her well. That's what I think.

This is why I like the theory of Lottie knowing Tiana is close to her goal buying the food for the party from Tiana to trying to help out, because Tiana would only accept the money as a payment for a service (this would also explain the motivation for going to her workplace, which is probably not really a convenient place for Lottie and her dad to go)

Like he clearly loves and respects Tiana (in one of the storybooks he walked her down the aisle for her wedding) so he’d be more than happy to help but it’s not something that really crossed his mind

would he have? yes. but it is very very clear tiana would be offended if offered such a charity since we are shown shes a woman of hard work and integrity. thus they took a different approach. buying her food in mass, 'lending' her dress to tiana that coincidentally perfectly future tiana and didnt match lottie at all. i personally believe he also helps drum up business at the end. they helped in a way that shows they cared for tiana rather than desired to look good.
