@herhockeyera: I was finally able to record some footage of me on the ice! This is my 3rd time doing a 1 hour drop in Stick and Puck session #herhockeyera #hockey #womenshockey #learntoskate #fyp
Something that helps when I’m teaching my little girls how to stop is imagining you’re shoveling snow! Your skate should be fully perpendicular to the direction you were moving, and imagine you’re trying to get the maximum amount of blade possible under the ice like a shovel under snow. (if that makes sense.)

Hey! I'm in my later 30s and I'm in London too. Currently teaching my husband how to play hockey, how do you actually get a spot at stick n puck!? Its ALWAYS full! 😭
As for skating, get a bit lower :)
A lot of people unintentionally bend more at the waist when they want to get lower, this will ache in your lower back (especially after 30!). Make sure you are sitting your bum back, chest up, and knees bent. I called it the "hockey chair" stance when teaching our kids and now even my husband tells himself "hockey chair!" if he notices his back getting sore. It's an easy way to remind yourself to sit your hips back rather than bend over.
I know of a great women's Skills and Drills class, if you're interested check out LWHA closer to the fall. They also run 20+ and 35+ leagues all skill levels are welcome. Such a great group!
