i love that we never learn his backstory. especially because nowadays writers feel the need to explain every little thing but sometimes we don’t need all the information for a story to be as impactful and i’d argue not knowing his backstory makes this story more impactful.

i do believe silver didn't have an especially significant childhood. A lot of his commitment to piracy seems to come from the fact that it gives him a purpose, a sense of self worth. I buy that he lived as a featureless face among the masses for a while. BUT if we was the child of a military leader or preacher, with his talent for speech? I'd buy it.
