@plandymandy: In case you (or your wallet) need to hear this- You don’t have to go somewhere fancy like Hawaii to have a memorable summer vacation with your family! 🫶🏼 My family has been checking off our 50 States Bucket List for 7 years now and if it’s taught me anything, it’s that there are so many fun and beautiful destinations that family’s can visit on a smaller budget! Here are my ideas for things to do in Keystone, South Dakota: 1. See Mt. Rushmore. It was way cooler than we expected. The parking only cost $10 and you could truly spend an entire day at just this stop. The museum for Mt. Rushmore is extremely detailed, there are a few hiking trails around the base where you can walk up beneath it, they have a Jr. Ranger program, and you can come back at night to watch an evening show where they light up the monument! 2. Drive the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park . This was one of our favorite things. There are free roaming bison through the park- they get so close to your car. In fact, we actually got stuck in a traffic jam of sleeping bison at one point. We saw more wildlife in Custer state park than we did in Yellowstone! 3. Needles State Highway. This is one of the prettiest drives I’ve ever taken. Pack a picnic and drive this highway for an afternoon. They have tiny 6ft wide tunnels that you drive through and you’ll again see lots of wildlife. There are many parking lots for stops along the way 4. Ride the 1880 Train ! This is a narrated steam train ride between the historic towns of Hill City and Keystone, South Dakota. You ride about 20 miles round trip. 5. Tour the @Big Thunder Gold Mine . You walk through historic 1890s gold mine and learn about the Black Hills Gold Rush and you can pan for gold after! 6. See, eat, and enjoy downtown keystone! Be sure to hit the iconic Dahls Chainsaw Art for a fun stop. ‼️This is a great destination for a 4-5 day getaway! #summervacay #familyvacations #budgettravel #bucketlisttravel #familytravel
