If I am to choose my favorite characters based on how they are written in the books and played in the movies… President Snow is, controversially, my second favorite character in the series behind Peeta and before Plutarch. Not because he was a good hero, but because he was a GREAT villain. Intelligent yet blindsided, sly but not dishonest, honorable even if he did not fight for an honorable cause. He was formidable, tactical and decisive in his attacks against Katniss and the rebellion, but this critically undivided attention became his greatest point of weakness, too. Even if he was only trying to stay in his position of power or keep the Capitol in control of the districts, his city and his people were threatened by the crossfire of the rebellion and he did his best to limit violence against them in the process of aiming to achieve his results… even President Coin could not relate to that. He hid things in the dark in the name of war, but was still honest in the way he was predictable. He had established values and principles, and spent his reign in the Capitol upholding them as he was appointed to. You knew what he was really fighting for. He showed all of his cards, but you never expected how he’d play them. His character was so well written; if he wasn’t a villain, he’d be my favorite character, but because he’s such a well written villain, he’s still one of my top 3 favorites in the series.
