Here is another way the Quran gets history WRONG: Abraham’s father is given a name the Bible never uses. Surah 6:74: “Abraham said to his father AZAR, ‘Do you take idols as gods?’” But the Bible names Abraham’s father TERAH. Genesis 11:26: “Terah.., fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.” Repeated in Joshua 24:2 and the genealogy Jesus’ own lineage runs through. Luke 3:34. The Quran calls him Azar; the Bible, consistently, Terah. (Fair note: Muslim commentators offer various harmonizations. Azar as a second name, a title, or an idol’s name. Those attempts exist. But the plain reading is a different personal name for the same man, and the Bible’s “Terah” is triple-attested across Genesis, Joshua, and Luke.) The Bible’s genealogies are obsessively consistent, the same names recurring across books written centuries apart, because lineage was everything for tracking the promised Seed. And that’s the point of all those genealogies: they’re a chain of custody for the Messiah. From Abraham to David to Jesus, “the book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” Matthew 1:1. The Quran varied the name. The Bible guarded the line, every link, because the whole point was to prove Jesus was the promised Seed of Abraham and Son of David, exactly as prophesied. Names matter when you’re tracking a promise across two thousand years.
