The most important thing about this book is it serves as an incredible example of how literature/art/pop culture can influence our perception of other people. We have a wide and well documented history of humans of all ages doing the exact opposite if this book in tikes of crisis. Strangers putting their lives at risk to save other strangers from natural and made disasters alike. Children defying nature to protect eachother, and yet one book will generate conversations about inherent wickedness of humanity. There’s a lot more good out there than bad, but it’s fascinating how literature when done eloquently can change our perspective of what we know to be true.
