@filmenthusiast: $1 million budget. $17.2 million opening weekend. 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Curry Barker is 26 years old. He built his career on YouTube, went viral with a micro-budget short called Milk & Serial, and got every studio in town calling. He ultimately signed with UTA and took Obsession to TIFF, where Focus Features bought it out of the Midnight Madness section for $14 million. The film follows a hopeless romantic who breaks a mysterious "One Wish Willow" to win his crush's heart, only to discover that getting exactly what he wished for comes at a dark and sinister price. Inde Navarrette plays Nikki and is already being called the genre's newest standout. She said she was determined to humanize the character rather than just make her scary. "I really wanted people to see themselves in her." That balance is exactly what makes the film work. Have you seen it yet? Thoughts?
