@nutritionsmadesimple: Ask A Cardiothoracic Surgeon: The Most Important Inflammatory Marker Of Cardiovascular Disease Risk. Hi, I’m Dr. Michael Richman, a double board, certified cardiothoracic surgeon and in today’s video I’m sharing why the GlycA test, the most important inflammatory marker you have never heard of, is a game changer for predicting heart disease, diabetes risk, and cardiovascular death. For a cardiovascular consultation and/or lipid consultation, you can go to my website at www.paladinmds.com #hearthealth #glyca #inflammation #cardiovasculardisease #cardiovascular

Dx’d with CAD out of the blue after it was noted on a lung CT in 2023. Never had high cholesterol (from your videos I know it is more common these days). I take rosuvastatin every other day because daily atorvastatin caused a lot of chest, shoulder and neck discomfort. Current blood test puts LDL 45, HDL at 52 and triglycerides at 62. Regarding inflammation, given my history and current numbers can I assume my inflammation is better controlled so my risk of adverse events is less? Or is my treatment plan helping to limit possible adverse events and the inflammation will always be there? Your content is super helpful!

RDH here. Gum disease of all stages is a significant contributor of long term, low grade inflammation. We educate our patients constantly of the systemic risks of gum disease/inflammation and why things as simple as flossing can actually extend their lives. Some actually listen too!

Your video goes dark at the end. Not sure what I’m missing. If you do have high inflammatory, what is the fix?

Does being on rosuvastatin affect/lower this measurement as is seen with hsCRP? Is it still useful if someone is already on an anti-inflammatory medication?

I recently had a doctor refuse a test because he said he would do the same thing no matter what the test result was. He didn’t seem to understand that I’m not sure that I would do the same thing no matter what the test result is. I’m 70 years old and routinely run hard getting my heart rate up to about 165. If I knew that, I had a lot of soft plaque in my arteries I might not do that. I wanted to scan for soft plaque.

So kind of like checking lips-a levels? A one time test.

The weird thing is the lab gives one number. Above 400 high risk below 400 low risk. So if you are 395 low risk and 401 high risk? Seems weird it’s not more stratified
