it's this app, literally every other video is "look what I bought, look at my haul, RUN TO KMART" Its constant pressure to buy buy buy. it's exhausting

Yep. I’m in a ‘low buy’ year and can’t stand the consumer culture.

100% influencer culture. People (and I fall for this too) genuinely believe that the influencer loves the outfit they are promoting. A few days later it’s on Depop new with tags. They get paid to promote, but have formed the parasocial relationships and gained trust from their followers and that’s how they make their income. It’s not genuine. I shop way too much, have way too much and am super easily influenced, even though I know all of the above 😩😩

I struggle with this especially for things like home decors. I love watching other people’s houses and how they style their homes but I always wonder how these creators have the space to store all these seasonal and ever changing decors😅 I am trying to really ask myself if I really need/want the item or do I only want it cause I’ve seen it 100x on tiktok that I’ve convinced myself to like/want/need it

I’ve significantly cut my spending due to being on parental leave at the moment and it’s made me realise how I was absolutely over consuming… I feel like I have a whole new outlook on my spending.

Do you use candles and when I say candles I mean non toxic paraben, phalate and petroleum free.
Natural soy wax candles?

It had been happening for a long time but I think the Kmart revamp a few years back has a lot to answer for it. It used to be a store that was looked down then became trendy and so many people “needing” to buy stuff every week. Influencer culture also huge,y problematic. The constant shopping hauls of fast fashion make despair.

Wow this is so important. Critical consumption. So much pressure i think also from social media to show off and competing with others

Off topic but I’d really appreciate your opinion- I just purchased the most amazing 95% cotton 5% cashmere pants from assembly label - I accidentally got bleach on it… so now I have orange splatter marks on it 😩 I do not want to purchase another pair. Is there any saving these pants????

I just wanted to say- watching your videos has made SUCH a GREAT difference for me and the clothes I buy now. Especially my sons- if it's not 100% cotton I'm not buying it, they're 15 and 11 and I couldn't work out why they sweat so much. It was the plastics in our clothes! Soon much polyester and while I love a soft bamboo- I'm steering clear from now on too. Love your work!

cheers to being anti BS 😆 one of the best things I did was learn my seasonal colours, silhouettes that suit me and learn about fabric composition and I just don't buy into trends anymore and am building a wardrobe that is much smaller but I legit love each piece in there and getting dressed is so easy now!

My 20 yr old son and myself have only bought one new item of clothing in 18 months and we also don’t buy new ‘things’ but instead shop at thrift shops, on Marketplace and repurpose and upcycle so much. Not only have we saved money, we love saving something from landfill and there’s no pressure to buy stuff.
