Nalyn Reeves was a 19-year-old mother living in Montgomery, Alabama. She shared a 10-month-old son with 20-year-old Tarus Giles. According to court records reported by local news outlets, Nalyn had twice sought a Protection From Abuse order against Giles before her death. In one petition, Nalyn alleged that Giles had physically assaulted her while she was pregnant with their child. She described being beaten for approximately two hours and alleged that the attack left her with a black eye, bumps on her head and a busted nose. She also alleged that Giles had threatened her and her family, including threats involving her unborn child. According to the filing, Nalyn said she was so afraid that she fled to a neighbor’s home for safety after Giles allegedly returned with a knife. And then she tried to get protection again. In a later filing, Nalyn allegedly described another incident involving Giles and said she was “terrified” of him. She expressed fear that he would eventually kill her or hurt their child. But neither protection petition ultimately resulted in an active order. According to court records, the first was dismissed after neither party appeared for the hearing. The second was dismissed because Giles was never served with the paperwork. Then came August 31, 2026. Around 8:30–8:46 that morning, Montgomery police and first responders were called to the Gibbs Village housing community after reports of a shooting. Inside the home were Nalyn and her friend, 25-year-old Undrea Willis. According to court filings, the women had secured the front door. Prosecutors allege Giles entered the home through a living-room window. Both women were fatally shot. Nalyn’s 10-month-old son was also inside the home, reportedly in a bedroom when the shooting occurred. Nalyn and Undrea were pronounced dead at the scene. They became Montgomery’s 36th and 37th homicide victims of 2026, according to police. Giles was arrested on September 2 and charged with four counts of capital murder. The charges include allegations involving the deaths of two or more people, murder during a burglary, and murder in the presence of a child under 14. At the time of the killings, Giles was also reportedly out on bond from a January third-degree burglary charge. Giles is accused of killing Nalyn and Undrea. He has not been convicted, and the allegations against him still have to be proven in court. But what makes this case especially haunting isn’t just the double homicide. It’s the paper trail. Nalyn allegedly told the court she was afraid. She sought legal protection. She sought it again. And months later, prosecutors allege the very person she had feared entered the home and killed her. Now a 10-month-old child is growing up without his mother. And another family is mourning the loss of 25-year-old Undrea Willis, whose life was also cut short that morning. Nalyn wasn’t silent. She allegedly documented what she said was happening. She went to court. She asked for protection. And the question this case leaves behind is devastating: When someone asks for help before they’re killed, what happens when the protection they’re seeking never actually takes effect? #crimejunkie #truecrime #trumecrimecommunity #murder #blackcommunity
