You're right (in terms of the definition in the Philippines). In Canada, an attorney is a law professional who has passed the bar exam and can act as a legal representative for clients in court, while a lawyer, although also a law professional, may not have passed the bar exam and can provide legal advice but not represent clients in court.

hello! i learned the hard way na sa pinas lang ata ganito. nagbakasyon ako sa US, tapos tinanong kung anong work ko sabi ko lawyer, working as a ____ attorney. tapos di kami nagkaintindihan ni ate girl sa immigration. sabi niya, "so you're not an attorney." ako napa-huh? na lang. after non tsaka ko lang nalaman na, iba pala sa ibang bansa 😭
