I would like to play, to the best of my ability, the dombra piece "Dear Elder Brother" ("Qairan Aga") by Nurlybek Suleimenov. Our land has produced many great kuyshi (traditional dombra musicians). Going further back in our ancestry, there was the famous musician Kozhake Nazaruly. This noble region, once home to the Alban Kazakhs, has been blessed with many talented performers. In fact, Tekes is often called the homeland of kuis. Among our respected elders was Shamygun Junisbekuly, who devoted thirty to forty years of his life to education and eventually passed away here in Kurtai. There was also my relative, the kuyshi known throughout Kazakhstan for his piece "Korikti Kushik." Another outstanding musician is Kurmanzhan Zakriyuly, who now serves as the chief dombra player of our region. And we have our esteemed teacher Hakim Dosmurzhauly, who has trained thousands of students from Tekes and introduced them to the dombra. Many remarkable musicians have lived in the Tekes district. That is why, whenever music courses are opened here, there may be ten or fifteen different dombra classes at once, and there is still not enough room for all the children who want to learn. The people's love and appreciation for art are truly special. As for the history of the piece "Dear Elder Brother," it is said that our ancestor Suleimen passed away during the difficult years of the Cultural Revolution, without ever taking off his hat. My grandmother often asked me to play this kuy for her. After listening, she would sigh and say, "Ah, dear elder brother…" She remembered him as a man who would even carve a black dombra and make a sybyzgy (Kazakh flute) from it, and who was a gifted flute player. Then she would say again, "Dear elder brother… yes, that's right," and continue listening. In honor of those beloved fathers, as great as lofty mountains, who spent their lives protecting and caring for their children and descendants, I would like to perform the kuy "Dear Elder Brother."
