Crayola air dry clay is notorious for cracking especially if the clay is wrapped about something because it shrinks when it dries. Try DAS air dry clay!

I’d recommend learning to make cold porcelain clay, it’s the best air dry clay for most people and last alot longer + less cracking.

cold porcelain!! its soft if you make it right ! so you need 1 cup of cornstarch, 1 cup of any white glue like elmers, 1 tbsp of baby oil or olive oil, and lastly 1 tbsp of either white vinegar or lemon juice (important so it doesnt mold) mix this all in a microwaveable bowl (you wont be able to use this bowl for food after so pick carefully)do 15 seconds at a time and mix after each one until it starts to look like mashed potatoes. take it out and let it cool down a little but not completely, after this put some lotion on ur hands and working mat/space and knead it until its smooth and has mostly no chunks. its the best clay i ever tried !!

Art teacher here. It likely cracked because the cray wasn’t thick enough on top of the foil. Clay shrinks when it dries. So either a bit less foil in the center or thicker clay on top. It’s also possible you used to much water when smoothing it out. The air dry clay will crack is you use a bunch of water. Also Crayola is just the worst air dry clay, probably best to invest in some slightly nicer clay or make your own.

Crayola air dry clay cracks because it shrinks significantly while drying. With foil in the way, the shrinking process causes it to crack. An air dry clay that doesn't do this, is Das Air Dry Clay. It's also stronger and lasts longer too. Sorry about your project, twin. 🫤

I’ve used this air dry clay before. Keep filling the cracks, and let it dry before adding more. If you notice cracks forming during the drying process, wet your fingers a little and blend the clay together until the crack disappears.

hey! Crayola clay is pretty known to crack easily after drying even if you knead it or water it down due to poor ingredients they have made in it. you should use other types of clay / airdry foam clay!💕
