This is SO common. Where I work, I regularly get told off for looking for expired things. It takes out of the boss's bonus to order more so if expired things sit on the shelf forever, they make more money. ALWAYS check expiration dates when shopping. Seriously. Gas stations, grocery stores, drug stores, all of it.

I worked for a beverage distribution company years ago and all you have to do is tell your salesman the product is expired or damaged and the company picks it up and gives you credit . I then worked for a grocery distribution company and it was the same thing. The stores didn’t lose any money. They just need to return the product, the drivers that deliver pick it up and take it back in most cases. Then the credit is issued.

I am confused do you not have food service come in every few months and actually go through the store and check. I managed a deli/ bakery for a major grocery chain and we were checked every few months. If they found anything then they would do a deeper dive so how could anything be three years out of date???
