Please as a parent monitor this. As a parent it seems innocent and adorable but can turn into a mental load that is a lot for a kid to handle. Let her be a kid and encourage the independence but also let them know it’s not all their responsibility. -sincerely the eldest daughter

As a sibling to someone who is a doctor there’s a few more things to consider. Parents may no longer qualify to co-sign the student loan debt of the upcoming children because of the pseudo debt they took on from the first sibling (happened to me). Also, you see what your older sibling went through with med school, residency, and fellowship as well as the stress in the job when they finally start, and they basically advise against doing anything similar.

I always find comments of people being upset an older toddler sister is involved with a baby so annoying. It is SO natural for a TODDLER to want to help tend to a baby sibling. She’s not being forced to. It’s actually a good way to teach responsibility. And I AM an eldest daughter.

my older sister is the non profit version of social worker for unhoused youth. she's the oldest of 5 and basically raised me. I can't imagine her ever doing anything else!!!
